Immigration Programs Division (IPD) sits within the Immigration and Settlement Services Group. IPD delivers the permanent migration and temporary visa programs to maximise the long-term economic and social benefits to Australia across the Skilled, Family and Refugee, and Humanitarian visa programs as well as through Temporary entry to support tourism, education and international relations.

About the Position

Under general direction, the Visa Processing Officer is responsible for assessing visa applications and determining outcomes.

A. Visa Processing Officers are required to work with legislaiton and policy to make decisions on subjective criteria. Please provide an example that demonstrates you can apply critical thinking skills to make a subjective decision consistent with policy or legislation.

B. Visa Processing Officers are required to be highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet set processing targets. Please provide an example that demonstrated your ability to prioritise and balance a series of competing priorities in order to meet tight deadlines and achieve results.

C. Visa Processing Officers are required to work in a team where circumstances can change quickly. Provide an example of a time when you worked collaboratively within a team during a period of change or uncertainty towards a common goal.

D. Visa Processing Officers require excellent spoken and written communication skills. They must be able to prepare client correspondence, interview notes, assessment notes and be able to write decision records in English outlining the reasons a visa applicant has been refused a visa in English. Please give an example that demonstrates your ability to prepare somewhat complex correspondence and records.

E. Visa Processing Officers are required to process visa applications using several different systems and assess different types of visas with different legislative requirements. Please provide an example that demonstrates your ability to quickly adapt to new technology or quickly and efficiently learn new processes.
